last friday night

for some reason i thought summer was wedding season.  little did i know, i was dead wrong.
or maybe we just weren't very popular during the summer and have suddenly become way cooler?
either way, we have more september wedding invitations on our fridge than all summer combined.
last friday started off the fall wedding season with brecken and brent's weddings.
i expected it to be a mini high school reunion and i couldn't have been more correct
(if you remember my crisis post from a few days ago, this is what sparked it).

girls are a little bit better at keeping up with each other than boys are and i still see a lot of my GF's regularly
(although we could still do better).
so it was fun to see all my old BHS buddies at brent's wedding,
and even more fun to see that they are all grown up and have the cutest little wives.
britt and i may have only been 2 years older than most the girls, but we felt ANCIENT.
however we must have pulled off looking young and hip,
because they invited us to join their bunko group (is that an oxymoron?)!

after a long and exhausting night of catching up and socializing, it made me even more glad to be going home with my best friend of all.
it's nice to have found my person that i don't get sick of (knock on wood).
and after discussing everyone and everything that went on that night and finding out we were thinking the exact same thing,
it just goes to show that we were meant for each other.

especially when we find out we were thinking the exact same thing about needing a treat after such a great display of socialization.
donuts and orange bang from the gas station?  just call us classy.

Lately

Quick Update

We had Tyler and Jason over for FHE.
We watched a lot of YouTube and wrote Alex letters.
Not the most spiritual but we bonded.

Brady and Tyler "accidentally" ran into Alex at the MTC.
What a good looking district!

Dawson pretends to love my cooking.
I had craft time for the kitchen.
Homemade Indian food. One of our favorites.

Saturday night date nights.
Sometimes I skip dinner so I can get a concrete and eat the whole thing.

Jeff and Lauren's wedding:
Beautiful weather at the temple and gorgeous reception.

Our Wedding Reception

If I could re-live our wedding reception, I probably would do it every day.  It was So. Much. Freaking. Fun.  We had it at La Caille, which is about 2 minutes from both of our houses so it was perfect.

I hate huge wedding parties so I tried super hard to keep the numbers down.  I have to say though, the hardest part about planning a wedding is avoiding hurting people's feelings.  It would be easier if there were no such thing as a budget and you could include EVERYONE.

It was the biggest pain to find yellow dresses and skirts that all matched and all fit everyone, but I love how it turned out.  I think we had the best looking wedding party around!  Oh, and to just tug on your heart strings, look at my adorable nieces and nephew...

There is quite a difference in family size when one is the last one married and the other is the first one married!

I decided long ago that I wanted a ring ceremony.  We didn't want it to take away from the temple, so we made it fairly casual.  But I loved walking down the aisle with my dad.  We walked to an acoustic version of "Storybook Love" from the "Princess Bride".  I can't tell you how many times I watched that movie with my dad growing up, so walking down the aisle to that song was a no brainer (especially after I found the acoustic version of it - amazing!).

How sad is it that I didn't even see this fruit during our reception?  When I saw it in the pictures after I was shocked, and mad I didn't get to try any of it.

Having Nielsen's Frozen Custard, my absolute favorite food in the world, was my personal request.  They don't normally cater weddings but after hassling them enough they agreed to do it.  Don't worry, I made sure we got some of this!

That desk is my pride and joy.  We found it on KSL and re-did it ourselves.  How cute is it?!

If you know my Grandma Nancy, you know she is one of a kind.  During the reception she was wondering what kind of cake we had, so she just scooped a little out of the back to see for herself.  Mind you, this was while we were still outside, BEFORE we had cut the cake ourselves!  I think on your wedding day nothing can make you mad though, because I wasn't even phased by this.

Once the music turned on, we had the ultimate dance party.  Dawson hadn't wanted music or dancing at all, but I convinced him to let us try turning some music on and seeing if anyone danced.  Thank goodness we did, because I think we might have had some sorely disappointed people if we hadn't.

GIRLS CLUB!  I love my cousins so much, I'm so glad we got this pic of all of them.  FYI- I am the official Girls Club president, seeing as Ashley and I were the only granddaughters for 8 years.

We got to stay at the cottage at La Caille on our wedding night, so we only had to drive down the lane.  Andrew and Jen had decorated our room for us, and it was B-E-A-UTFUL.  We had some Nielsen's Cary handed me as we were leaving, a hot tub, coconut shrimp from the reception, and "supplies" from Andrew and Jen.... we were set.  And I'll stop there!

Of course on our honeymoon I started thinking of everything that went wrong... the photo booth guy was late, a whole box of decorations got left at home and never got set up, my groom took a nap and was a little late, we didn't get a whole bunch of pictures I had wanted because of a time crunch...  None the less, I have no complaints.  And considering I was the ultimate anti-wedding planner (I procrastinated, I went to Hawaii for a week right before the wedding, I had to graduate and pass my Nursing Licensing test during main planning time, etc.), I think everything turned out perfectly.

Besides, at the end of the day, I was married to the love of my life and that was all that mattered.
