dash diaries

this picture is of dash and i going for a run (walk/jog) in the beautiful weather.  why did i, the girl who loathes running more than anyone in this world, do this for dash?  well, besides the fact that the vet said that dash is 1.5 lbs overweight and he loves to prove he can run faster than me, let me tell you.

last night i had one of the worst nightmares of my life.  i feel incredibly ashamed even admitting this, but i dreamed that i got dash killed.  well, most likely killed at least. i am very concerned about what my self conscious is telling me.

in my dream i was a thief of some sort and dash was my sneaky sidekick.  we were robbing this gangster (guys, you know that dreams don't make sense when you tell them in the day time) and we didn't realize that he had a gun!  rookie mistake, i know.

dash couldn't run away fast enough and the guy SHOT HIM.  of course i dropped whatever it was i was stealing and picked up dash and sprinted outside to find the veterinarian.  i was holding my hand over the bullet wound and keeping the blood in to keep him alive.

it was very "where the red fern grows" like and now that i'm telling the story it sounds very graphic, but it was really just so sad because he was whimpering and i was racing against the clock to find the vet.

and then the worst part.  i'm running down the street (which for some reason was a road from an old western movie with saloons and stuff on both sides) and before i can find the vet, I WOKE UP!  so i don't even know what ended up happening to dash.

of course i woke up crying and completely devastated.  thank heavens it was my day off so i was able to make it up to dash for subconsciously getting him murdered.

he ate human food for every meal (not conducive to his diet, i know), i scratched his ears for a whole hour, we went on a run (as before mentioned), went to the dog park, and went to visit his best friend max. he might not have understood why he was getting treated like a king (i didn't have the heart to tell him), but i think that was for the best.

so i think we're even, wouldn't you say?  now i just need to figure out how to have happy dreams where dash can talk and i can fly, instead of these terrible nighmares that make me think i was an evil villain in another life.

dash diaries

one year ago we surprised ourselves and came home with the cutest puppy in the world, who turned into the best dog in the world. and by surprised i mean i was planning it for months.

lucky for us, he has never chewed anything of ours up, he rings a bell to go outside to the bathroom, he never ever ever barks, he makes friends with every person or dog he sees, and waits patiently outside our door every night until we finally let him up on our bed to go to sleep.  i think he knew that if he wasn't the world's most well behaved dog, dawson would have found him a new home with the jack rabbits in the west desert.

i know i'm a little biased, but a dog this great definitely deserves a little blog recognition.

happy anniversary dash!!!

happy birthday dash!

i love this little guy more than you could even imagine
(which i'm sure you can imagine is a lot).

we spoiled him today with new clothes, new toys, and new bones.
he even got a few bites of human food!
he is such a good dog, he deserved it.
plus it was his FIRST birthday! that's a big deal!

dash really is my BFF.

dash runs errands with me,
exercises with me,
is more excited than dawson when i get home from work,
watches tv with me,
helps me clean up dinner (didn't you know thats how we wash our dishes?),
cuddles with me,
listens to all my stories, complaints, and exciting news,
and much more.

sure dash loves dawson,
but we both know i'm really his favorite.
(just ask who he sleeps on every night)

"dogs have given us their absolute all.  we are the center of their universe.  we are the focus of their love and faith and trust.  they serve us in return for scraps.  it is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made."

dash's first vacation

we were lucky enough to be able to bring dash on the family trip to priest lake!
i was so excited, especially since we've had to leave him behind so much this summer.
the drive took us 12 hours and dash did amazing, and slept on my lap with me the whole time.
at the lake house he was in absolute heaven.
there was a never ending supply of new smells for him to sniff,
new terrain for him to pee on, and more birds and geese to chase than he knew what to do with
(jamie liked dash chasing the geese even more than he did i think, she pointed them out to him every time and egged him on).
we were very proud parents, and dawson's dream of having a hunting dog was almost fulfilled.

dash also learned how to swim! now i'm not saying that he loved it...
but if dawson and i got in the water he wouldn't hesitate to run out and swim after us.
so what if it was only because of his need to be within 5 feet of me at all times?
he conquered his fear and that's what matters. and he actually did love going out on the boat.
he had no fear and would wander around and even would watch the wakeboarders from the back.
but his favorite spot ended up being under the captain's chair.
(he realized that was the best spot to hide to keep us from putting him out on the wake surf again).

maybe i am just a LITTLE biased but....
dash is pretty much the best dog ever in the history of dogs.

Summer days

I'm just going to be honest.  I was born for summer and the sun.
The past few weeks have been simply bliss.
(I mean the 4 days a week I have off).
I have yet to get sick of being lazy, and I think I should be a professional beach bum.
I just need to quit my job and move to California first.

Each day pretty much goes exactly like this:

Wake up to my boys. Eat breakfast with hubby. Hubby leaves to study. Take Dash for a long walk.
Dash lays down every time we pass shade. Possibly go to the grocery store. Go to Crossfit with my momma or hit the gym.
Sunbath with my best buddy. Read the day away. Get showered and ready so Dawson doesn't know how lazy we've been.

Then the best part of the day, Dawson gets home!

I can't wait til June 11th, then he can join Dash and I in our daily routine.

I said YES

1 year ago today exactly.

If you really want to, you can read all about it HERE

In order to celebrate, we ate ourselves sick off of cheesecake with the Snow's.
Totally worth it.

I mean really, is there any better way to show your love then to laugh your butt off with cheeks full of Red Velvet Cheesecake?  That pretty much describes us perfectly.

Oh, and also of very important note:

Today is National Puppy Day!!!!

We celebrated Dash by getting his hair did and letting him play with his best buddy Max.  I was worried he wouldn't look cute with his hair cut, but lets face it, he's still the world's most adorable dog.  See for yourself.

I love both my boys so much, don't know what I'd do with them

Dash. Is. Awesome.

In honor of Dash, I'm doing an Awesome and Awkward day!

Awesome... Dash ringing his bell to go outside to go potty and not peeing in the house anymore!
Awkward.. Dash purposely ringing his bell when we aren't paying enough attention to him because he knows we have to go to him if he rings that dang bell

Awesome... Taking Dash to PetSmart and having him be calm and obedient
Awkward... Dash taking a big stinky poop right in the middle of the aisle at PetSmart before we leave

Awesome... Dawson taking Dash to the vet by himself (Dash gained 1 lb 9 ounces in one month!)
Awkward... Dawson going to the register at the vet to pay and realizing he forgot his wallet

Awesome... Having Mylie and Taya babysit Dash while we're in Vegas and being the best babysitters ever
Awkward... Dash peeing on Mylie's lap while she was holding him

Awesome... Me finally getting Dash a dog tag
Awkward... Me forgetting that Dash has TWO owners and only putting my number on his tag and not Dawson's

Awesome... Taking Dash for walk in sunny weather AND cold weather
Awkward... Dawson thinking I'm a bum because of the mismatched outfits with men's beanies I wear when I take Dash for a walk when it's freezing

Awesome... Taking Dash to the dog park with all the big dogs and him making new friends
Awkward... Dash trying to hump the one puppy we find at the dog park that's actually his size

AWESOME...  Literally thinking that this almost 7 lb black puppy is one of the best friends I've ever had

dash diaries

Dash and I were playing in the snow while Dawson was changing out the tires on the cars.  Dash kept sneaking over to Dawson and stealing the lug nuts without him noticing, making Dawson search all over and think he was losing his mind.
I'm not gonna lie, I didn't feel the need to tell him for awhile.

Oh and today is very special... We've had Dash for exactly 1 month. Happy anniversary to us!

While Husband's away...

Dawson went to Yellowstone with the Kent men to do the yearly snowmobiling trip.  This is the first time my husband has left me and I did not like it.  I won't lie, at first I was like,

"Yay, I will play with the puppy and friends the whole time, this is going to be the best, I won't even miss him!"

WRONG.
By the first night he was gone I was already pining away for him.  I guess I'm more attached to that cute boy than I thought.  I did keep myself busy, and thanks to a thoughtful husband, great friends, amazing family and an adorable puppy, I survived the past 4 days without having an emotion breakdown.

How to Survive while your Husband is Gone
  • Go to dinner at Blue Lemon with your GF and old roomie (Mindi, Ash: this needs to happen more often)
  • Have an amazing husband who sends you flowers and treats
  • Go shopping and get your nails done with your mother-in-law (Diana's the best!)
  • Go to a Going Away party (We'll miss ya Whit!)
  • Have a fab Mom who babysits your puppy, but puts diapers on him
  • Get desserts at the Dodo with a good friend (cute Nakita Nicol!)
  • Talk to your husband as much as possible and fill him in on every little thing that has happened since he left
  • Have your puppy play with his best doggy friend to tire him out
  • Go to the busiest day of work ever that lasts 15 hours
  • Visit your darling Sister-in-Law, niece, and nephew with your puppy and chat non-stop for 4 hours (Thanks for the pizza too Jen, love you XOXO)
  • Go to a birthday party with your husband's friends, who are really now your friends, and eat desserts and play charades (where the girls team wins)

I'm so happy my husband is home and I've decided to never let him go anywhere without me EVER again.
